Land Registry Program The Baraboo Range Preservation Association has established a Land Stewardship Registry Program in order to promote our conservation goals and strengthen our relationships with landowners in the Baraboo Range. What is a Land Stewardship Registry? A land stewardship registry is an important means of protecting land resources in the Baraboo Range region. The registry recognizes landowners for their commitment to good stewardship of their land and also seeks to assist landowners in these efforts. What types of land can be included in a Registry? The types of land included can be working farms or woodlots managed in an environmentally responsible manner, wetlands and waterways or any area with notable scenic or natural features. What does enrollment in a Land Stewardship Registry involve? Baraboo Range Preservation Association volunteers meet with landowners within a project area to discuss their personal efforts in protecting critical natural resources. Enrollment in the Land Stewardship Registry involves only a handshake agreement (not a legally binding contract) between the landowner and the Land Trust, representing our mutual commitment to the sound stewardship of the land. What does the landowner agree to do? 1) Protect their land and its unique characteristics to the best of their abilities. Notify BRPA of any threats to the land, such as pollution, right of ways, erosion or other developments effecting the habit of wildlife and plants or the scenic value of their property. 3) Inform the Land Trust if they plan to sell the land or change the way in which the land is used.
What are the benefits to a landowner participating in the program? 1) Registrants will receive annual reports from Baraboo Range Preservation Association and notices of our meetings.2) The Land Trust will be happy to answer any questions about the management of your property and work with you in seeking solutions to anticipated problems. 3) Participants also receive a handsome certificate symbolizing your commitment to the protection of your land and its resources and a weatherproof sign suitable for posting. Frequently asked questions: Is their financial advantages to enrollment? No, the registry Program does not by itself provide any financial or tax advantage. However, BRPA can provide information to you on a variety of methods that offer such benefits to landowners—such as conservation easements or purchase of development rights. Could future owners further develop this property? Yes, provided it is permitted by local government regulations. This is a non-binding agreement between you and the Baraboo Range Preservation Association and has no binding effect on future owners. Must I allow the public on my land? No. Enrolling your land provides no rights of access to anyone. Can I get additional signs to post? Yes additional signs may be purchased for a nominal charge.
